A Psychological TipWhenever youre called on to make up your mind,
and youre hampered by not having any,
the best way to solve the dilemma,
youll find,is simply by spinning a penny.
No - not so that chance shall decide the affair
while youre passively standing there moping;
but the moment the penny is up in the air,
you suddenly know what youre hoping

I had a busy weekend! Chingay Chingay Surf n Sweat.Friday and Saturday were both occupied by Chingay. I arrived at Ngee Ann City at 4pm on Friday with Winnie. We met Sylvia, Hema, Evon and Szehong. We waited really long for the briefing to start. BUT, let me just digress a little.
CAN YOU GUESS WHO THE HELL WE MET!!! Ridhuan ok! My god! What luck. I saw him and I freaked out. Winnie freaked out too. I think Zonghua (who was behind us) must have thought we were mad or something. Poor us.
Ok, so we had our dinner sitting in the middle of Ngee Ann City. It was quite disgusting. Then we were being split into our respective sectors. AT FIRST, we were in sector 1!! COOL RIGHT! Its happening there! But not for long, we were being swapped to sector 3B. The last and most unhappening sector! Winnie and I were SO angry! Sylvia and Hema remained in sector 1.
So we were quite sad while walking to Meridian Shopping Centre (that is how far we were! The parade ended there!) Our job scope consisted of ushering the participants on to their buses, ensuring their safety and preventing pedestrians from jaywalking. The best part was, we were as far from the parade as possible and CANT watch it AT ALL! Cool!
So while the floats were not here yet, we basically had nothing to do at all. Oh yes, the adult volunteers did not have dinner, so Winnie and I went back to Ngee Ann to get food for them. We walked on the road. I felt like a VIP! The street rockers were waving to me. (Those from NY of course)
Basically, I was feeling horrible. Can you imagine, going to Chingay and ending up in the most boring sector. And the news about the Chai Chee trophy did not help. Argh!
When the floats came in, that was when our work started. Winnie and I went to the front. It was not really busy at first, because the performers had to take time to come in. We stopped people from jaywalking. Quite a number of them did not want to listen to us! There was this bus uncle standing nearby, he was laughing at us! But I admit, it was quite funny. Winnie asked the bus driver not to jaywalk!! Apparently, she did not realise that he is the bus driver... Another guy standing there for I dont know what was also laughing at us. Maybe we looked dumb, trying to accomplish the impossible.
I got scolded by this ang moh.
" I'm sorry, please use the pedestrian crossing"
"RUBBISH!! I live here! " and he held out his hand to his asian girlfriend, "Lets go!"
Hah!! Oh well, that was quite funny too.
It was not all that hard getting the performers on to their buses, except that they tended to stray onto the second lane, where it was not blocked off, so there were cars zooming around.
I saw this interesting bus. When the door opens, the front of the bus will lower itself to allow passengers to get on easily!! Cool right!
When it was over, we had feeder buses sending us back. Winnie and I took the bus to North (AMK and Yishun) The driver took us on a ride! He went ALL the way to woodlands before coming back to yishun then AMK. I took one hour to reach home!
On Saturday, I met Winnie to have lunch at Ramen 10. The strawberry soda was very nice. We reached Ngee Ann city SupeR early! All of us slacking around on the steps. Then it started to drizzle when we were about to have dinner. We moved into the shelter and looked like illegal immigrants eating dinner. Dinner was smelly! Very disgusting.
Soon, we were due to be at our sector. Today, we were smarter. We went forward to watch the pre performances. There was this street rocker (a girl) super funny! She was trying to be really high and really sexy and really groovy and really whatever! Try harder. <-- Thats my advice to her! All five of us were laughing at her. Can you imagine what the audience would think!
The duty was very much like the day before. Same exhaust fumes, same jaywalkers. Winnie was snubbed by this father.
"Please use the pedestrian crossing."
"COME ON!!!!"
Haha! Funny.
After the parade was over, we had to go to the street party. Many of us formed a human chain surrounding the party. There were this 2 smokers behind us, and Szehong went and asked the police woman to chase them away. She was hemming and hawing and in the end they walked away on their own.
I took the feeder bus again, thank god it didnt take us on a ride anymore. I reached home even later than the previous day, 1am.
Surf n Sweat on Sunday. Not much really, surfing was quite cool. Drink salt water time. We saw Kimjoo, Darren and Sam. Sam came in 3rd for Men's open! Kimjoo's sister came in 3rd in Women's open.
